got my gecko! :D

abbyn May 11, 2005 01:36 PM

i got my leopard gecko today!

he/she (i haven't checked yet, i don't want to handle it too much and stress it out) is in a 20 gal long. i have a cool hide, a warm/moist hide and a water dish.

he/she has already eaten 1 cricket (that's all i offered so far).

i'm making sure my crickets are 'gut-loaded' and they're dusted before i feed. how many should i feed it at a time?

i have the calcium dust as i said above, but i also read about keeping calcium in a dish? what do i get for the calcium in the dish?

thanks much! he/she is so cute! (i will have to try to get a picture!)

I generally tend to feed 5 crix and watch to see if they all get eaten. If they do just add in another 3 or so. Again if they get eaten add in another one or 2. If your leo its the 5 and then when you add the others doesn't eat them they must be removed ok. A calcium supplement with D3 in should be given by dusting your crickets once a week for adults and twice for juveniles. But a dish of pure caclium shoud be supplied at all times. Hope this helps, you can find more info about care for leopard gecko's on my site.

I use a cuttle bone or cuttle fish scrape of the soft side into a sealable container and that is used as pure calcium.Hope this helps.
