Egg weights?

genevieve May 11, 2005 02:44 PM

So I keep seeing all of the posts on here about new hatchlings... and I am still waiting for my first of the season to come out. I weighed the first set of eggs that were laid a while back today and they are 5 grams each.

Does anyone have any info on how much they weight right before hatching? These eggs have been HUGE for almost three weeks now. And, no, I didn't remember to write down when this clutch was laid, but I do have it for the other 10 clutches that are incubating...)

Thanks!

Its a good question I wanted to know the same thing when my first batch was incubating but everyone told me not to disturb the eggs while they were incubating so don't really know what to tell you other than most babies weigh 2-3 grams

ever since i first started hatching out cresteds i started weighing the eggs periodically. it really depends on how much they weighed to begin with. i would say if you started off with an egg that weighed around 2 grams in the beginning, expect it to hatch out in the 4-5 gram range. if you've got a real big female, expect the 5-6 gram range. so keep a close eye on those eggs the next few nights. i usually also notice that the eggs tend to get what looks like grease stains on them 1-2 days prior to hatching. i think this is either from the rapid growth of the egg or the geckos are actually trying to rip thru.

Thank you much! They have been this heavy for a while, I keep thinking they are going to hatch any minute, but they are still in their shells.
