Question about time of hatching

crotaphytusman May 11, 2005 02:49 PM

This Friday the 13th will be day number 40 for my first clutch of eggs and I know that it is any time between 40-60 days but I am just wondering if anyone has an average for Collaris eggs (Aquaflames). I am just curious more that anything. I am trying to be as patient as I can but it's KILLING ME! thanks for any info. And like I said, you all will be the first to see pictures of them when they come out.
My other question is, how important is natural sunlight as babies? I plan on getting them into natural sun as soon as I can build an outdoor set up (I hope this weekend). I have a 10.0 UVB bulb now with my adult collards and they are healthy as could be. Also, should I separate all my little ones from each other? I know I can't keep them in with mom and dad. I just want to plan accordingly for my babies on the way. Thanks for the info.

Be careful with overheating them though. I think my aquaflame eggs hatched around 47 days at 84F approx.

Good luck. My aquaflame female just layed outside somewhere. She found a good hiding place because I cannot find them. I'm bringing the adults in around 40 days to see if I'm lucky enough to get babies outside. That will be first if it happens.

But wait until you get to see one hatch, my goodness nothing like it, you will be EGGSTATIC !

Mine usually go about 53 days average

And yes if ya have alot of babies, I seperate , because they chase crickets, and are very grabby.
Some times by accident they will grab the end of anothers tail along with the cricket, and off goes the tip of a cage mates tail. BUMMER

I usually put 3 to a 10 gallon tank or you can go larger and put a couple more in a bigger area.

** One more MAJOR thing to know,(because otherwise you will worry) After they hatch, they do not eat for 3 days to a week. Sometimes abit longer, I had one go for 2 weeks.

Do not worry it's normal, they will eat after that time.

Keep them at the same temps as adults, uvb, water, all the same.
Just offer smaller crickets for the first month, after that they can nail larger ones easy!

I can't wait until we hear the GREAT news from you, and PICS of course !

the closer it gets to hatching time, the worse the patience gets. hopefully you will have better luck than me. the eggs that died last week started hatching at 50 days and the ones in the incubator now are at 52 days and not showing signs of anything
