Diet Question - Do I need to vary???

jacki122604 May 11, 2005 03:29 PM

Hi everyone,

I am new here and while i'm not new at owning a uro, I have a simple question about feeding. I have uromastyx (i'm not quite certain as to what kind, but he doesn't have much coloring, he's a very dull grey all around with a little bit of yellowish on his belly and neck) - i'd love to know what kind he is. But anyway, i've owned him for over 5 years now, and I didn't even get him as a baby. He's pretty stuck on his diet and very picky. All he eats is a mix of escarole and chicory as his greens and a little dish of dried split peas and lentils that he loves to crunch on all the time. He eats good, but i'm wondering if I should try to vary his diet a little bit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try giving him, and if a change is necessary?

Thanks everyone!

he kind of sounds like a mali, and variety is better because it can hit more nutrients but i also have a very picky mali. helga only eats bok choy, peas and green and purple iguana pellets. i try to sneak in other things in the mix but i am not sure if she or hugo eats them. i do use uromastyx dust to help up the nutrient variety. my uros also prefer to eat the dry food over the greens so i have to take the dry food out until i see them eat some veggies first. welcome to you and your uro.
