I think my tegu i got yesterday has RI but im not for sure.He makes a real hard raspy breath when i touch him and stuff and it could be a hiss but i dont know it doesnt realy seem like a hiss to me.I need yalls opinion because if yall think its RI im gonna take him back.I realy like him he eats like a pig here are some pix.

Hey I don't know for sure but my guess is that he is healthy, and he is hissing at you. If he was sick he would not be eating well, and act lethargic. Tegus don't have vocal cords, so they make sounds with their breathing to tell you they are threatened, angry, scared, or just startled.

I agree with alioops. Huffing is a sound that tegus use when they are scared and trying to warn you to stay back. If your tegu made the raspy sound when just sitting there breathing I would show concern, but if it's when you are near then it's just huffing.

I am unsure what tegu you have but huffing is extremely common in Colombian Black Tegus since they are more timid and flighty to start with.
