Can removable pieces of astro turf be used as a substrate as long as they are kept clean?

Thanks

I have been using it for years in my cages. Other people say it is more work than newspaper but I don`t mind it. I keep several pieces extra and clean them as soon as they are soiled. I spray them thoroughly with a hose to rinse out any feces etc and then soak them in antibacterial soap for 24 hours. Then rinse completely and hang dry them.

I only have 12 snakes so it is not too much work. I can understand if you are a breeder or just have many animals there are other easier substrates.
