Quiet Tokay

kbsummer Jul 11, 2003 09:08 PM

I recently purchased a Tokay for my daughter, We already have a
Leopard Gecko and thought a Tokay would be fun. He seems content and healthy but has not made a sound. Is a quiet Tokay a happy Tokay?

Tokays don't usually make any sounds except when they're calling for a mate and/or barking at you because you're reaching for it and it's getting pissed. Then they bark and make this weird scratchy hissy sound. Almost sounds like banging pool balls together real quickly and lightly.

During mating season, a seperately kept male tokay has to be consedered a loud animal. But many many tokays, especially wc ones stop calling after moving and do not resume for a long time. WC tokays may wait a year till they call again.
Females of course do not utter any sound unless molested.
