????? for snow owners..

iaherper May 11, 2005 10:11 PM

Have you ever had your Snows go totally pink? My female turned unbelieveably*sp* pink about a week before shedding. I know boas usually turn pinkish when they are going to shed, but this was crazy....and its never happened before,I've had her well over a year and witnessed alot of sheds..

I'll get a few pics up tomorrow

Just wondering, Terry

I do notice with my light colored albino (she has almost no color at all)
when she goes into shed she turns pink and yellow, it's very dramatic from her normal coloration. Then she sheds and it's back to the white and light light pastel pink.

Maybe these are colors that are in the skin but are very faint and when the skin is getting ready to shed and gets the moisture under it, the colors show up better?

Snow, being a combination of anerythrism (no pinks/reds/etc) and albino (no melanin, or dark pigmentation) shouldnt be showing pinks or reds. The only colors present would be yellow and white. If it has pinks I would think it is just an albino.

I do not own a snow... I could be wrong... but that is how I understand it.

the blood and muscles of the animal and has little to nothing to do with the over all snow coloration, I would think that the color is actually more due to the top layer of scales seperating from the new bottom layer and reflecting light in a slightly different way, My albinos turn red, which is really cool to see, before they go into shed.. Sometimes i just wish they would stay that pretty red color, BUT..... I guess im only speaking from my albino experiance...

I agree with Rose. I have my fair share of Snow boas, and it is common for them to turn to a rose pink color just before a shed. They do look pretty neat.
