Question about Hatchling feeding?

Pastel_Lover May 11, 2005 10:44 PM

My babies hatched between the 19th and 22nd of April. They have gone through thier first shed. They will not eat. I have tried putting them in a paper bag with a Rat Pink, and they just wont go for it. Any help on getting these little guys to eat would be greatfull. Thank you all again.

When I got Eve she hadn't shed her first time. After she did, I waited about two weeks. I saw her come out more and more "on the prowl"
I bought the smallest possible mouse and put it in her cage.
It went under her hide, and didn't come back.

Give 'em some time. They'll get hungry.

How are they housed??

I will assume separately with hides in their sweater boxes or such.

First, I find I have more success getting them feeding if you have no contact with them at all; except water changing.
They won’t really defecate yet, so cleaning isn't a problem.

Secondly, while some will start off on rat pinks, most will more readily take mouse crawlers, or small hoppers to start.
I think smaller is less threatening to them.

Once they start eating, they are usually not too hard to switch to rat pinks. I usually switch to rat pinks on the third meal, or as soon as they accept one.

That’s all I got.

I’ve never had to use paper bags or other things like that on any of my hatchling; I think that will stress them more than anything else.

Hope that helps
