I tried breeding three pairs of corns in my class this year for the first time. First of all they did not burmate and I realize failure is a possibility. I only saw the act on one set of corns and that corn layed 17 nice big white eggs two weeks ago. My second one laid 14 eggs today in class (We enjoyed watching- It worked out that the nesting box was clear) 13 eggs look yellowish and one was white. The white one was hard and the yellowish ones were soft, not moist though. Can a corn have 13 infertile eggs and 1 fertile egg? I have them in an incubator and will see. How will I know if they are duds?
Lastly, the third set. These two were the first two I put together(twice) and nothing so far. It has been two months since she was with a male and she hasn't shed yet. She looks huge and I think I can see eggs (honestly I have no clue - I never saw the 17 in the corn that laid eggs first)because she looks bumpy. She still eats fine. How do I know if the eggs are bound? She is active and doesn't act any different than before. She has good size (largest of my snakes). What is the longest a snake can go before laying eggs? All thoughts would be appreciated!
