color change

zakbag_darlde666 May 12, 2005 01:36 AM

The peruvian boa pictured below on the left is exactly the color and pattern I want in a peruvian. I want to raise a peruvian from juvenile age but the juvenile peruvians Ive seen on the kingsnake.com classifieds generally look similar to the one pictured on the right with the light color and the incomplete ovals on their back. Do juvenile peruvian's color and pattern change as they get older?

Pattern will not change, but color will. However not all will become yellow or goldish colored as adults. Try Jim Peters onesnake.com) for ones that will turn yellow as adults. Gus at Riobravo reptiles has several lines that turn yellow and gold.
Others that know more might post some more good breeders. Barry Miller has great adults, but I'm not sure if he bred them.

Go buy another one, ...LOL. Those are sweet looking Peruvs. I don't know much about them, but you have some nice looking ones. Andy

The pattern doesn't change, as far as connected vs floating saddles. The color definitely changes, usually getting more yellow and saddles darkening.

Almost all boas will endure a little color change as they grow.. Steve and I always say that around 1 year in age is when their "true" colors start to sink in and you start to notice just how nice and beautiful they really are, each snake in there own will grow into the great colors... just find a good pattern saddles that you like cause as mentioned above the saddles will stay the same throughout life but the background color will change as the animal grows.. Good luck!
