Taiwan Beauty Snakes, Breeding and size questions

Slizarus May 12, 2005 02:03 AM

Alright, I have 1.2 Taiwan rat snakes, 1.1 of which are owned by my partner in crime so I can only describe my female:

Typical pattern/coloration 2'6", healthy.. extremely

I have a few questions, at her length, what is her approximate age? We got them wholesale (Partner is a pet store owner) and all ages aren't known.
At what age/length are they sexually mature?

Can anyone give me a wager about how thick a full adult is? I understand their length as I keep a number of Boids, but I have no idea with width/bulk.. they're fairly lithe snakes and I don't expect much, but a idea would be nice.

Any info would be appreciated, this is my first rat snake and is actually a Mother's Day Present for my mom, but I'm the local expert on reptiles.. so it makes sense that I learn everything about them

Thanks in advance, Gorgeous snakes aren't they?

Well at roughly 30" in length, I'd say a yearling, these babies hatch out around 15-18" and can reach 48" within two years. I'd let her go to at least 5' before attempting to breed, but I never push a smallish female.

As far as girth goes, they are one of the thicker bodied of the beauty snakes. My female, though shorter than my male blue beauty whom is over 8' in length, is considerably thicker than he is, she's at least as thick as my wrist, don't know her exact girth though.

Yeah, these guys are great...good luck with yours!
