Hi everyone,

Is it legal to ship tortoises from Hong Kong to the US?
The shipper says they have all paper work required.

Thanks for replies,
Steve

Sure it is...

As long as you have the CITES paperwork from the country of origin, a form 3-177 listing the animals being imported (for USFW) and a USFW import/export permit (or broker). Anything out of line and the animals will most likely be confiscated.

If the animals are app I, the chances are not very good that you can get them in.

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the info.

Where do I get a USFW import/export permit?

Is there somewhere that I can check to see what CITES app the animals are?

Thanks,
Steve

Find a importer/exporter to do the importing for you. It is much easier and will be done correctly. Also expect to spend about $1000 US to get a shipment into the US.
