Any problems feeding directly on Aspen bedding

lgorbaty May 12, 2005 07:57 AM

What's the incidence of problems resulting from small wood chips adhering to rodent fur during swallowing?

Thanks,

Leon

It may not be commonly reported but it does happen. I lost a very nice brooksi female due to swallowing wood chips several years ago, and someone recently posted pics further down of an impromtu necropsy where they found impacted bedding. Some people have had no problems and have been feeding on bedding for years. I do not think the problem occurs with ingesting substrate once but on a recurrent basis. Once I lost an animal to that, I have fed all my animals in their hide boxes or similar arrangement in their enclosures.
