Feeding issues...Please help!

dragonririko May 12, 2005 11:58 AM

I just got a hatchling corn about 2 weeks ago. I fed it a pinky a couple days after bringing it home, and everything was fine. The next time I fed it (almost a week later and the day after returning home from college with the snake), it regurgitated the pinky the next day.

From what I understand, I should be waiting about a week to attempt feeding it again. This would be ok, except that one week would be this Sunday, and I'm going to be moving again. It's going to be a 3-4 hour car ride, and the corn's going to be coming along.

My question is, when should I feed it? before or after I move? I'm worried the car ride will be stressful to it, and cause it to regurgitate again. I'm also worried about it going so long without eating, since it's a hatchling.

Wait until after the trip. Eight days without food will not harm the snake. The fact that it regurgitated once increases the chances that it will happen again - do not give it a valid reason to occur a second time. Also, double check your temperatures. Does the snake have a heat gradient going form 75-85 degrees? In addition, do not handle the snake until it has successfully eaten 3 or 4 times without throwing up. If it's not a temperature problem, it might be the stress of moving around and being handled that is causing the problem.

Thanks a lot!

Do you think it would be ok to try feeding it the day after moving, or should I wait an extra day or two?

You really have to keep an eye on a snake that is being taken with you in the care for an extended period like that. The sunlight coming through the glass can really heat up your corn's travelling enclosure very fast...faster than you even realize sometimes, and corns can die very quickly from overheating.

Be careful!

I was checking the temperature periodically on the way home from college last week. I'll be sure to keep my eye on it when I'm on the road this weekend.

Thanks for the reminder!

Put your corn in a quite place(no vibrations).Make sure your temps are ok and you have plenty of fresh water. They get dehydrated when they regurge.Wait another week then feed the smallest pink you can find.
Do not handle at all.I would be more worried if it didnt eat..Paul
