Great Shots Lele!
I noticed your last shot of Darwin (tree hugger), where he's wrapped himself around a snake plant.
I noticed something very interesting from my own bearded dragons last year by accident. I was sunning them over the summer in one of my vacant chameleon enclosures. The enclosure was full of plants, branches to climb, etc, but no chameleons. Lots of floor space though.
Well, I went outside to peek at them. Not so much because I was worried about them, but more so because they get some GREAT coloration after they've been out in the sun a lil while. Well, the chameleon enclosure they were in was apparently empty! After a short panic attack, I did find all three. They had climbed up the branches and were happily hiding within the schefflera in the enclosure!
This went on all summer. They would climb up the branches and would spend as much time as possible within the plants. They definitely did NOT act like desert ground dwellers. If someone didn't know better and saw their behavior, they would definitely mistake them for arboreal reptiles.

huh, that's interesting! were they just trying to get out of the heat? That shot of Darwin was a sleleps flat on the floor, but in the beginning he loved to get up into that driftwood. I had to take it out though because the underside is quite rotted and the crickets LOVE to hide up in there!

GEOGRAPHICAL RANGE AND HABITAT:

They are native to Central Austrailia, they like semi-arid to arid WOODLAND habitats! :0)

They are seen both on the ground and in the TREES ! And are found perched in bushes/branches and on fence posts!

Many people seem to think desert with these guys! They do love to climb. So waht you were seeing when they were sunning would be quite normal for them in nature!

the way he loves to be spritzed I figured they definitely got some regular moisture. I think people think desert b/c the setups are often so sparse and have the sand (or no) substrate. I am under the impression do this more to maintain cleanliness than for the dragon and it makes sense if you have a lot. I had another plant in with him and I may put it back and make it more lush.

have gone for the more HEALTHY envirorment, with the shelf liner for substrate, and so forth, and have gotton away from the more naturalistic look.

I am not saying anyone is right or wrong, it;s a matter of personal choice also. I personally like the natural environment look as much as you can with a glass tank , LOL

When I had my beardie, when he was a baby I had him on paper towels to be safe, I do agree with that, with all young / hatchlings.

But as he got older I did use sand/potting soil. I had a big ole log from a tree that was cut down, he basked on there. I also had a plant of some kind, when he was smaller, a big aloe.

Anyway I understand peoples concerns for the more asthetic type cage, as these guys are very prone to coccidia/ parasites.

But I think the dragons like plants and logs and natural things also

I know I do , LOL

Yep yep!
I thought I knew my beardies. Semi-arid to arid.. right right... desert. So I thought!
They definitely weren't in the plants to escape the sun. There was plenty of good shading in the enclosure close to the ground, if that was what they wanted. They were in the branches because that is where they wanted to be!
I'm SOOO looking forward to my coming move! can't wait to build them (and my chameleons) new enclosures. I am gonna have to rethink my cage plans, as I was originally going to build low cages. I'll probably give them more of a 'Box' enclosure. Plenty of room for walking about, but plenty of room to climb as well.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRGH! I bred two citrus dragons and got a "transparent" baby or "translucent" dragon Which is what Darwin is. Since I was not breeding for the trait I sold him to Lele for next to nothing as far as Transparents go. They are a pretty new morph and very expensive! They are so new I did not even realize that is what he was. I thought about it once but just dismissed the idea. "Like yeah! what are the odds of that happening."
Not only is he a transparent most of those are just grey normal colored. He must be one of the first ones from a citrus line of dragons. The little guy is worth a mint. I think in England they call them "glass dragons"
I am hoping I can re-create one from the next clutch (same parnts) which is incubating now. The rotten thing is his mom is not the best egg layer there is. She stomped or broke lots of the eggs in her first two clutches while laying them.
Luckily Lele has graciously agreed to bring him back for a conjugal visit at some point so. In the meantime don't let him get a sunburn!LOL

anson May 13, 2005 12:39 PM

His eggs are due to hatch any day now as the female laid them on 3/18/2005 Then she laid a second clutch about a month later from the same breeding.
He actually was not warmed up yet in this photo and was going into shed. I don't know if his picture will be in Reptiles magazine or if mine holding the trophy with the other winners will be. I don't even know which issue yet but they took some nicer pictures of him all warmed up.

of strange and unexpected things happening. Next I will breed two chams and produce a frog. LOL
One like the one in the old comics where he would sing and dance but only in front of the one guy. When others would come to see, the frog would just say Ri-bet.
Then when he was alone with the guy he would sing "Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gaaaaaal. (dang, I'm old)

There was such a thing?
You mean the one on Captain Kangaroo? The blob looking thing drawn with one continuous line. It had like three blobby looking hairs on it's head? No wait, you are talking about Steamboat Willy! The first mickey mouse cartoons with no talking just music playing in the background. I saw them but later on. I swear, they were re-runs!

lele May 14, 2005 10:39 PM

I am sure they were reruns! The best I recall was the cat turning on the faucet and the streams of mice coming out! LOL! and there was alwasy orchestral/classical music in the background (we're talking, uh...late 1950's ;-/

Darwin's a cutey, Lele!
I don't have any beardies now. The last one died a year ago.
He was over 10 years old though.
I hope Darwin will be with you at least as long as mine was!
