Amelanistic or Albino?

nodaksnakelover May 12, 2005 12:21 PM

As I browse different breeders sites, I see the same looking snakes, but called two different things! Are they actually albinos or amelanistics? I always thought when it comes to Northern Pines, they had albinos, right? And I note several of the albino Northern Pines, they have yellow blotches where the black would be in a normal, is that how it is with all the albino Northern Pine lines? Cause I note how Albino Southern Pines have red blotches, which I love. Funny I've not gotten a pair of them yet, and I've been wanting a pair for a number of years now! This year is going to be my year to pick up a pair of Albino Southern Pines. But anyhow, just tossing this question out, to see if I can get any straight answers on it. Thanks!

All "albinos" are really amelanistic, but people usually just refer to them as albino. We have a male amel northern that has orange blotches, another with reddish, and a female that has the yellow. The amel Southerns tend to vary less than the amel Northerns, but still can vary. Below is an amel Southern with the reddish blotches. We have a young male that has more pinkish orange colored blotches also.

Thanks for the info and sharing the pic. I had assumed they meant along the same lines. Sorta like corn snakes. But I had to make sure it was. Thanks!
