sexing a ybs

hello. i was just wondering how to sex a yellow bellied slider. also, is there any way to estimate thier age?

You can't determine gender until a YBS or RES is about 4-4.5 inches long in carapace length, when the nails of a male will start to get long and the tail thickens up. Some turtles might show signs just before 4", but I wouldn't be certain that a female wasn't a male until 4.5".

No good way to determine age, either.

The best way to tell before the nails grow out is by the placement of the cloacal opening in the tail.
