Panacur...

hefte May 12, 2005 04:14 PM

I have a wild caught Mangrove I need to de-worm. I was planning on killing a mouse and packing the mouth with it, this way it won't break down and should be ingested completely. Anybody have any thoughts on this? How do you guys normally worm your hots? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric-

After a bit of experimentation, I found that it was easier to make a small incision in the skin (the back of the neck worked well), insert a section of a plastic straw through the incision, sliding it between the skin and flesh, and pour the panacur through the straw. I guess I should point out that I only did this with pre-killed mice.

Make a 10Mg/Ml stock solution and and inject it with a syringe into the dead mouse. The CORRECT dosage is 50 Mg/Kg so weight the snake to deterimine the CORRECT dose.

It is beneficial to know what you are treating before you deworm. Take a fresh fecal sample in to someone who knows what they are looking for (most likely a vet). Best thing for a wild-caught is a continual strive towards optimal husbandry. Deworming has it's place though.
