pictures in the boa classifieds...

damian5000 May 12, 2005 07:15 PM

I'm somewhat amazed by the horrible quality of pictures in the classifieds. Few of the pictures are good, some of them are just ok, but mostly the pictures are blurry, dark, the lighting so bad it is difficult to tell the colors of the snake or a combination of these issues.

Most of these animals are selling from $100 and up into the thousands. Granted it seems that the cheaper the snakes the worse the pictures, but even some of the bigger breeders selling higher end snakes have pictures of their animals that look like they've been taken with a disposable with the flash off.

I just had to let that out. I'm looking to purchase a boa for the first time in a while, and I'm frustrated by the fact that the majority of the time I'm unsure of what the animal might look like because of the quality of the pictures.

i have to agree and feel that a good way to sell your snakes would be to take really good pictures. if the pictueres are good then the snake will sell itself and there would be no need for the ever so common discriptions of junglish and stripish and pastelish. i plan to breed in the future and am also looking to buy a snake soon so i understand what you mean and i plan to take multiple good quality pics for each snake.

some people can get great pics, others try for years with poor results! (what's the secret?! lol)

anyway, when i'm really interested in an animal, I will express this and work with the seller to get more pics. Usually i'll have to slowly instruct them step by step over a few days before we get some suitable pics, but at the end of the day, this helps me now, and the seller for every other ad he posts! he'll get better.. see?

If a big breeder posts a 'normal' albino and the pic is blurry or not there, I wouldn't think much of it.. you know what you're getting..

but when it comes to high colored animals and some pastel colombians, you are totally right.. it is darn near impossible to see what you're getting clearly..

The UPSIDE to that, is that whenever I buy these animals, and receive them, they look soooo much better and make me sooo much happier!!!
