ok, s/he is completely out of the shell. i just got home. his eyes are still not open, is that normal. kind of looks like he breaths really hard but that might be because i shined the light on him and scared him. he is covered in vermiculite, should i take him off that and put him on a paper towel in the incubator?

well, the eyes have opened and that is the most spastic little creature i have ever seen. i finally got it picked up and put into the big cage and it looks so tiny in there! i have a little tiny bit of water in the cage. and i am going to go buy a better hide spot right now!

Welcome to the world little one!

Yes, I would get the vermiculite out if its all over him.

You can leave him in incubator until you feel hes moving around well, kind of sure- footed so to speak, then tranfer into whatever your going to use as a baby house, LOL

Remember your uvb strip is real important

AWESOME ! Pictures Needed !

how do i know if he is getting water or enough water. should i soak him in shallow water daily until he eats? it feels great having a baby and he is so tiny. i feel like the collareds are huge and the uros are just gargantuan compared to this little button. he absolutely hates me so far, i have gotten the open mouth treatment already!

I always giggle at them, so tiny yet so TOUGH,

No don't soak him. Two things I do, I get a plastic shallow lid off something like a coffee can, a deli container lid, you know the real shallow tops, like they put on a soda to go, .... and fill it with water, they are so low and shallow the baby can almost walk through it.

Don't have to worry about him drowning in it.

And the ole eyedropper is a treasure at this age. Drip some on his nose and evenually he will start to lick it, then after awhile he will come to it when he sees it.
