Petition...

Doug89 May 13, 2005 02:07 PM

Please sign this online petition which is in regards to the keeping of the exotic pet known as the hedgehog in the state of pa. ALthough this will affect practically none of you your support is needed, just remember if it starts with harmless little hedgies it can easily lead to the banning of non-native venomous snakes and other non-venomous ones too! These laws tend to follow suit (they pop up sporadically but once one passes banning one animal another passes banning another and the vivcious cycle starts). Please Support our cause, the hedghog trade was once booming in pa, they could be purchased in any pet store in the state since the laws regarding their possession have changed numerous companies have been forced to close shop and move somewhere else or just quit what they love to do all together. Please your support can make a difference and in the long run benefit you as well.

They were banned awhile ago werent they? Why were they banned? They certainly couldnt live wild if they escaped come winter .

Yeah but this just recently came to my attention after some in depth research. They have numerous, shady, reasons for banning them: They could escpae and cause competition with other animals (not possible) they can carry deadly diseases (yet i havent seen any proof of theis, besides nowadays most are cative bred) that sort of thing. MOstly the reason it that they aren;t native, neither are dogs, cats, monkys, chinchillas, vipers, etc. Yet Hedgehogs are a scapegoat. And like you said there is no way they could survive the winter.

I signed the petetion I cant think of one solid reason why they should have been banned. IN some areas of PA folks have permits for tigers, mountain lions, etc.
I am not talking about rescue places I mean individuals. I rather live next door to a hedgie than a tiger lol.
