I am looking for help in treating my rat colony that has ear mites (confirmed by the vet). I feed the pups to my ball pythons. I have been suggested to use Sevin dust sprinkled in the cages, then change the bedding after 24 hours. Also to use ivermectin, but The Ball Python Manual states that rarely balls can suffer neurological effects from it. A local rat breeder uses Vapona strips in the rat room. Another rodent breeder recommended using a product called Konk. Clearly, there are lots of ways to treat the rats, but people are less sure about the snakes eating the rats and ingesting the poison secondhand. I would treat only the adult breeders, but the poison might be taken into the pups through mom's milk. Anyone else dealt with this?
