Since everyone else is posting about their luck last weekend - my results from 5/11-13 -

I hunted a less frequently hunted road Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night this week. Overall, I hunted 23 total hours of driving roads and walking cuts and I saw a grand total of 2 atrox, and I saw those in about 30 minutes on Wednesday night!

Someone else on the same road saw 2 atrox, a molossus, and a pic on Tuesday night. The other nights I was the only hunter.

The sun never peeked out once during the whole 3 day period except for about 30 minutes of weak sun on Wednesday right before sunset. Highs struggled to get to 80°F. Nighttime lows were warm and muggy.

In fact, on Friday morning while driving some quiet backcountry roads in Schleicher county, I saw 11 snakes of 4 species in two hours (+ 4 roadkills). Of course, that's when the sun finally poked out!

Let's see....the $300+ I spent of lodging, gas and food over the 3 night stay would probably have brought me a nice breeding group of captive born alterna.

Here's a pic of me hunting a cut. It is a series of 3 photos (15 sec at f/22) shot 30 seconds apart automatically by my camera on a tripod. Sandwiched in photoshop elements 3.

True, a trio of alterna would have been nice but you have to admit, just getting out is still worth it. Well, looks like Rob is over in his new house in Del Rio. Maybe we should pay him a visit and have ourselves a nice house warming party a few nights of hunting!!
See you soon.

Have you ever hunted under some of those overpasses on 277?
I did last year once and caught and released a male kestrel that attacked my spotlight. Seriously (weird huh?) But I could imagine alterna or at least a suboc underneath one of those. I think I'll try again this year.
