Boa and Python

DBLOCK May 14, 2005 12:02 AM

Hi, I currently own a 4 ft. ball python, and am looking to buy another red tail. I am looking at a CB Female, 6 feet in length and was curious if the red tail could be housed with the ball temporarily for about 3 months, the cage is large enough currently to accomodate both animals, but I am unsure of any health risks to either snake, all advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I definetely wouldn't suggest it. Housing two balls together is one thing but different species generally don't do too well. Depending on the attitudes of the animals, they will most likely either end up nipping at each other or just on opposite ends of the cage being extremely stressed for three months. I would suggest going another route. If you can't afford another enclosure, lots of people have luck with temporarily housing them in rubbermaid containers on a heating pad. Seeing as ball pythons are nocturnal and don't need lighting, they would probably do better in the rubbermaid and you could donate your balls enclosure to the boa for the time being. Depending on how big the balls enclosure is and what size boa you are considering, it could be a little cramped but shouldn't be too bad for only a couple months. Hope this helped and let me know how it goes. rotaryevo17@aol
