Either a Komodo or a Perentie(sp?)
Probably lacies for the private keeper. I only know of one perentie in private hands and no komodo's.
But hey dont advertise it. In 1993 during a customs check in Los Angeles we saw it in another companies shipment from indo, fish and game almost let it go as they had no idea what is was, thought it was a Savator about 3 feet long, it was given to a private keeper, not a zoo. I asked how many they had gotten and i believe they said 2-3 were given to privates partys over the years
As I said, not that I know of.
Perhaps you could let the guy who inquired where he can get one and how much it would cost since you are here to help.
My understanding is that the keeping of Komodo's depends on funds, facilities, being aza acredited and such. Of course I could have just said funds.
best chance at getting rare species is being near a port of entry, start at dept of fish and game/wildlife. Get yourself registered with them as a contact that will take reptiles. They used to check out your facility to make sure you can care for the animals that come in without CITES etc.
Dept and fish and game/wildlife will call you when they get somthing in, they really dont want to take stuff and house it. Most of the time they will let the importer take it because there is not alot of people on that list(atleast there did not use to be), id get calls ocasionaly for really oddball stuff and mammals.
Aftet the komodo thing, i registered, hoping id get one, but it never came, just a bunch of venomous stuff, occational monitors and bugs (scorpions/spiders, creepy things) all the time. I dont do venomous mammals or bugs. In the early 1990's subspecies were thrown in with easy recognizable species. Ive seen some odd monitors black and yellow striped black roughnecks, green color salvator, dark blue/black croc monitor and a deep red tree monitor. id bet they confiscate that stuff now and send it out to the registered facilities.
Id bet florida gets some exotic stuff in all the time, im sure it works the same there. Thats your best bet i think to get some real exotics.
