How long can a tadpole last out of water?

Every once in a while when out herping I will see a big bullfrog tadpole in water that's about to dry up and i'll move them a few feet into deeper water where they swim away. I always keep them out of water less than about 10 seconds or so and am curious how long can a tadpole be out of water before they will be in trouble..never seen this information in a book before?
