Buying a Gecko

DeltaWoods Jul 12, 2003 12:22 AM

Hey guys I think I am going to be buying this Jungle leo from John at L.I. Reptiles sometime next week. What do you think? By the way, what exactly does it mean to be "Jungle". I just know I liked this particular gecko the best and thats why i am getting it.

I'll take the description from the gecko book I have.

"The Jungle phase gecko is a highly variable aberrant gecko with irregular, asymmetrical, and dark body blotches and a non-ringed tail. The jungle phase has dark bold spots on the limbs--from this pattern mutation came the first fully striped geckos. The jungle-phase trait is dominant over the striped trait.
"A jungle-phase female produced in 1994 was hatched with a uniequely shaped head and a blunt tail about two thirds the length of a normal tail. The animal was sterile. This condition is is probably genetically linked to her peculiar body shape."

If it looks healthy I say go for it. If the breeder is someone you think it recommended and has good service, then by all means, get yourself a Leo . Just be careful with shipping. Shipping can cause stress. So when you get the animal, leave him be in the cage for a few days.

jungle is basically in laymans terms, a gecko with a "jumbled" pattern on the body AND tail. that looks like really good one.

is a jungle classified as a morph like albino or tangerine or one of those? Or is it just a variation?

Jungle means that the pattern strongly varies from the norm. That's why the baby has swirls of black instead of the usual black bands. Normal Jungles really don't cost much now, but are really beautiful.

Looks almost like a bold jungle that wwww.masterpiecegecko.com has

Looks great!

Jungles have to have a broken pattern tail, and that one deffinetly does

If the tail pattern is normal it is called an aberrant
