Smallest tortoise?

lbratcher4 May 14, 2005 09:52 PM

I did a google search on the smallest tortoise and it said it was the speckled tortoise (Homopus signatus). I was wondering if it is possible to get this species in the US. If so how much do they run and where can I get one? Thanks for any information

I've never seen one available. Egyptian is the next smallest & can be found for sale from time to time.

They get about 4-6" as adults and I paid $350 for mine as hatchlings. I've seen yearling selling for $450 but they r not easy to come by.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I really wanted to find out if anyone has ever seen a speckled tortoise for sale or if it is possible to get one in the US. They only get about 3 inches max size. Thanks for all help. Larry

Sure they are available occasionally... very expensive.

They are also very delicate and fragile and there's a reason why they are rare. They do not do well in captivity at all.

They also max out at 4 to 5 inches. Just a little smaller than Egyptians.
