Hibernation

I have a good question... I think.

I was wondering if you want to breed a collard when she is 4 do you have to hibernate her every year until she is 4 or just the year in which you plan to breed?

Nah...if you want to breed a collared that is four years old, she only needs to be hibernated (also called brumated) the winter before you want her to breed.

Often however, females will become gravid and lay eggs regardless of us hibernating them or not. along those same lines, males will also try to breed sometimes without being hibernated.

The hiberation period (usually 4-6 weels at 45-55 F) just ensures our chancse of success.

Good question

He has first hand Knowlege, as his wife Brumates him yearly to get him moving !!!! Laughing like crazy !!! Kidding Corrupted Kid, he gave a good answer. I have a female this year who just layed 7 eggs and is going to lay again who was NOT brumated, so that part also is right. It can happen, although its best to give them a rest> Thats a ryhme, Eve
