what could cause a perfectly healthy seeming ball to just up and die

i was at the local petstore and the guy there said he had a baby cb ball for like 6 months ate perfectly drank fine shed 1 piece pooped regular and was all in all healthy but one day he just got sick and died suddenly. i asked about his enviornment and he said it was perfect that he has other balls and they were all fine no problems at all but this baby just died and the vet couldnt even help thats all th info i got i asked if he had any newbies he failed to quarantine and he said no the baby ball was the newest animal he had recieved

Did you actually INSPECT the environment? I've noticed that sometimes petshop folk assume that proper care is given...even in the worst conditions.

(I guess they have so many different species to maintain that it's easy to mistakingly house many of the seemingly similar species in the same manner...even when they call for drastically different environments.)

It was actually a customer who happened to come into the store so i cant say what the conditions were
