Pet Suggestion needed

wing May 15, 2005 06:09 PM

My son wants to buy a pet lizard. He's looking for something that is a herbivore, can be handled, doesn't need light and uvbs.

He found out about leopard geckos but it only eats insects. Blue tongue skinks are great but it needs constant uvbs and lighting.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Unless you use a uth(under tank heater)practically all lizards need some light to be warm.. This is a toughy. I would say try a turtle but they need uvb also. Your son may want to rethink his preferences, sorry to say, after reading this.

ignore the part about heat rocks, just DONT use one.

Sorry, but it helps.

I read about these skinks and their average size is 7 inches and they thrive in the cold. Also, really low maintenance.

I used to be in a turtle and frog business and I know most turtles and tortoises needs a lot of sunlight. But there are really few turtles that doesn't need sunlight that much.

I don't think there's any such thing. Might want to get a snake and feed pre-killed.

My daughter recently got a crested gecko, they don't require any UV light or extra heating. They do eat crickets (maybe 3 every other day?) as well as fruit baby food or there is a crested gecko meal replacement Powder as well.

You might take a look and see if that is something like he was looking for?
