omg ackie vs argus

reptile30 May 15, 2005 06:14 PM

most of you know i wanted to get an argus, i will probly as soon as my report card comes in( a deal withmy dad/ kinda like chucky chesses, for good grades instead of free token i get a reptile)
i was looking around and most people are really into the ackie thing witch makes me think why not go into breeding them.
so i have 2 pick which to get

an argus or like 2 ackies

i like thing about both
argus
nice colors
not that much to by(just the argus)
they tripod

ackie
great colors
people say they are tame
dont need as big as cage as argus

how much would a pair of argus monitor cost like sub adults
which cost more red or yellow
what would happen if u bred an red to yellow
are they hard to breed
would a 5 by 2 by 3 cage be good for 2 adults
1 ft of dirt
3/4 hides
do they tame easier then argus(for those who have both)
and who is a good breeder
and any other info would be great
(care sheets breeders pics of cages, ackies(adult and babys) with there owners)

thanks

Two Ackies will cost LESS in the long run than one Argus. Just about any monitor will/can tripod, Argus's just make it a habit. If I were you, i'd go with the two Ackies.

i just need the little push, bc i realy want something that doent mide being handeled, when people say that argus monitors are the lizard that dont back down, i was like wait do i raelly want something im gunna be afraid of, and plus i could always sell the babays to a local herps store or trade them for mice/crickets/more herps/supplise
and plus i have the mice that a ackie would eat the whole life and other things bc of my bearde dragon
thanks and any more info would be great

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I don't think pet stores will buy herps from you, they only take them in for free.

While you are living at home, ackie would be better for you in my opinion. Istead of a cgae taking up most of your room for an adult argus, you can have a pair or trio in say a 6X3X3.
Measure the usable space you have and see how a 4X8 and a 3X6 would fit in your room. I have an argus and will tell you, these critters are not afraid to eat. I have yet to see one that will put up with handling for long. They are very strong and will wiggle, scratch and do what they have to, to get out of your grasp.
Both your choices are of great fun animals. If I can convince my wife to sell her Iguanas I would love to close in their 6X4X4 cage and put some ackies in it.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

that a 3 or 4 foot argus/monitor that doesn't want to be handled or is scared has a great deal of "poop" that it will let go. I learned this the hard way one time and had to clean the stuff off the bathroom walls, floor, sink, shower, shower curtain, mirror, door, towels, shelves, my pants, my shirt, etc. That smell is something I hope I never, ever have to smell again.

If you have never had this happen, I hope you never do!!!!
