question about hypos

justin stricklin May 15, 2005 07:35 PM

I am interested in getting a hypo, well actually I am trading. I can only trade for one if I do and Iw as wondering if you breed hypo to a normal what would it be. I don't know if this hypo thing is genetic (I am just getting into boas). If it is I know the offspring would be 100% het for hypo but I don't know if it is a genetic trait or what. If I am lucky, instead I might get a pair of het albinos instead, if the guy can find some cheap and guaranteed hets. He is a very knowledgable person and so I trust he know what he is doing and all. Thanks very much in advance.

hype is a co dominenet gene, so if a hypo is bred to a normal, 50% of the babeis will be hypo and 50% will be normal. if you need more clarification on genetics check my post in the genetics sub forum.

Oh ok. So it is similar to 2 het for albinos bred together, except only 25% of the offspring would be the morph in that case. I am trying to decide which to go for, pair of het albinos or a hypo and a normal. I like the way the hypos look and the labinos too, but albinos I would get more money back while doing somehting I love.

If you breed a Hypo to any normal, you will produce Hypos, and normals. The normals will not be hets, this isn't a recessive gene as albinos are. Hypos are themselves a "visible"het for "super Hypos". Others can explain much better than I.

i guess you could say that its similar to breeding two het albinos in the aspect that you would get visual morphs in both cases. a pait of albino hets will cost about the same as a single hypo. the hypo will result in more visual morphs as you will also have het albinos in the het albino x het albino cross, but will not be able to tell them from the normals you produce. the option is really yours as to what you would rather get.

Yea, I know it is my choice.. It sure is hard though. I would realy like to produce some albinos though, so I will probably just keep a lookout for them. If I am offered a pair of hypos I think it owuld be wiser to get that though. I doubt that will happen though.lol
