tokay eggs still incubating?

fliptop May 15, 2005 08:19 PM

Hey tokay-dokays,

This past Feb 16, my now deceased female tokay laid two eggs which are still, I'm guessing, incubating. I realize this isn't necessarily abnormal, but I did touch the eggs, and they feel hard as rocks. They look nice and plump, but are they supposed to be that hard?

[As a side note, I believe I figured out why the female dies. The exterminators had been in a couple days before--NOT in my apartment, but in the building. I then saw a couple roaches "on their way out" who had made it into my apartment. I have a feeling one made it into the cage and she grabbed it. It happened to a friend's tokay way back when I was in high school.]

Thanks!

Andy

2 months is at the low end of when tokay gecko eggs normally hatch. For some it could take as long as 200 days or 6 months but I think that is for those that aren't in an incubator. I've found that the avarage of the max and min is the norm and I think it will take about 4 months for the eggs to hatch when in an incubator.

The temperature has a lot to do with how long it takes for eggs to hatch.

hey Andy, youre eggs are normal. Tokay eggs are very much like a chicken egg shell, hard. when the hatchlings come out the egg chips and breaks up just like a chicken egg. Most my eggs hatch around 100 days and not much less. I've got some over 150 days old now. the eggs can be very tough to break thru and I've had several still births I contribut to just not being able to break thru that shell.
