Sick rescue, any advice?

buffysmom May 15, 2005 09:27 PM

I have a 15 year old, male, rescued corn. He was starved & has gained back to normal weight since I've had him (I got him 10/31/04). He has had a persistent repiratory problem, which vet care & meds haven't totally cleared up (he's been on antibiotics & has had a culture done, which came up neg. for everything). Now he hasn't eaten for a month, is losing weight, is gaping w/ clear mucus in his mouth. The last vet visit & the culture were just done in March, so I just don't think another vet visit is going to be helpful...
Any advice would be appreciated...

You can raise the heat and humidity up.Its what Ive always done or been told to do.My burmese would snap out of it in a few weeks. At 14 he might still get the urge to breed and it's that time of year. All my males are off feed right now...Paul

His hot side is in the mid 80s (86 last night), so I will try increasing the humidity. I have had a breeding pair in the room & he did stop eating for a month or so, but then he started again, when the breeding stopped & when everyone else started eating. It's the gummed up mouth & weight loss that concerns me most. He remains active, cruising around his cage, drinking water, etc...
