My Turtle Enclosure Sprung a Leak.. x_x

CodyNolen May 16, 2005 12:20 AM

I drained it and put the turtle i na temp enclosure. (smaller than a 10 gallon tank)

It was a rubbermaid 50 gal stlye bin.

Should I:

A: Find and fix the leak with aquarium sealant.

B: Purchase a new bin.

C: Bang head into the wall untill I pass out.

I have no f'n idea how it got a leak. I am going to try and fidn the leak tommorrow..right now it's night time and I need some sleep.

Rubbermaid bins arent really made to hold water, its just a cheap disposable substitute if you cant afford a real tank. I would suggest replacing the leaking one. If you want to think about long term, consider either an aquarium or perhaps a small stock tank. Stock tanks come in metal or plastic, and they ARE designed to hold water. A plastic stock tank is what I would reccomend as they can generally hold more water for a lesser price than an aquarium. They are also available in small sizes.

After I filled the bin it bowed out. I had to put a bungie cord around it too keep it fro mdoing it.

I yhaven't checked to see where the leak is yet. It'd be good info to have where a leak doeswn't happen again.

I vote for options B and C

I know several people who use large Rubbermaid type containers for their turtles with no problems but I don't know how they keep them from bowing out.
