Question of quality and grade

kingofspades May 16, 2005 05:22 AM

I see adds for pastels, $700-$1000. Graded etc.

What do people do with the snakes that didn't come out...let us say "as attractive as hoped"

like you get a male pastel that just...isn't nice...
is there like a discount snake bargain bin?

The ugliest Pastels are only $700, while the most beautiful Pastels are $1000. The beautiful Pastels look best in private collections. The ugly Pastels can still produce beautiful offspring, so they're also used for breeding.

You just said it. $700 for lower end up to $1000 for higher end. It's really hard though to see what a pastel is going to end up as until they hit around 900 grams. I had one very ugly pastel, begin turning into a very nice one. And I have one fairly "ugly" adult male - browned out.

I price mine according to their quality - so yes, ugly ducklings go for a bit less lol.

There is a scale for balls obviously the more beautiful ones command the higher price, and the uglier ones the lower price. The higher white the Pied the more it costs, the brighter the pastel the more it costs. But these aren't necessarily traits that will be passed on to offspring. So an ugly could produce something very nice. Here is my bargain bin pastel I got for $1000 (last years price). I have some very high gold ladies he'll be paired with this season just to be on the safe side.

I should probably change my statement about "ugly" morphs costing less. The highest white Piebalds cost a few thousand more, but give me a 50/50 white Piebald anyday. I'll pay less, and have a nicer looking animal...IMHO.
