Question for everybody (age related)

rainbowsrus May 16, 2005 10:17 AM

Good morning eveyone, to get the week kicked off:

How old are your rainbows?
What is the oldest rainbow you have had?
And for the breeders, at what age does/has your rainbows stopped breeding?

For me, I have a 1.1 at 11 years, (my oldest, still breeding), 1.3 at 10 years,
0.2 at 4 years (my babies) and a bunch of '04's I brought in for new blood.

I am not a breeder, and am on my first BRB, but thought I would answer anyhow. My girl is 4 years old.

A question I have been wanting to ask but haven't ...

What do all the numbers mean before the snake? Ex:

2.0 ball python
1.3 BRB
1.5 reticulated

I have always wondered....

Unfortunately I don't know the exact age of my rainbow...kind of forgot to ask when I bought her. However I had her for about 3 months and she was about two feet when I bought her.

As for the numbers, they refer to the sex of the reptile, so 1:2:2: would mean One male, two females and two unsexed juveniles.

I bought my first pair as adults in '02 and they were supposed to be 2 or 3 at that time. I got my first litter in '03 so I now believe them to have been older than what I told. They produced a litter again in '04 and were seperated for this season. So I really don't know how old they currently are. I am still new and learning.

I currently have one I am hoping is gravid, but she was bordeline on age to produce viable offspring so I'm waiting it out.

What's the youngest that you have had viable offspring from males and females?

Youngest I bred were two holdback females born in '01 had their first litters in '04 at the ripe ol' age of 3. As for males, my males are all older than that.

My oldest Rainbow is a CRB that is 16 years old. She has not produced babies in several years. I bought her mate as a baby at the 1991 NRBE in Orlando. Some of my still breeding BRBs were imported as adults in 1992 and 1993. I have one BRB from my 1993 litter and several still breeding from my 1995 litters.

My male is 7 yrs, female is 6 yrs and thier two offspring are nearly 3 yrs. I'm really curious to see if this year anything is produced by the 3 yr old; no mating was witnessed this season and I now think one of the three yr. old is a male. This definitly makes the community approach much more unpredictable (who's bopping who).
