Damp hides

dewittg May 16, 2005 11:04 AM

Last week as my Texas rat as getting ready to shed, I put a damp hide in his enclosure - an ugly yogurt container with damp sphagnum inside. The shed went well and I had planned to remove the damp hide afterwards, but it seems to have become his favorite hangout. Clearly a yogurt container isn't a very aesthetic option, but are there bacterial or fungus risks with providing a damp hide long term assuming dry locations are also available? Any benefit?

If it is kept clean (ie - no Poop) than i dont think there would be a risk but check because sometimes it can get moldy. Just keep the cage clean and i think it'd be fine. You could try getting something more aestetically please and oputting some moss in there too. Good Luck!
