Is the squaretail recessive?

callmedaddie May 16, 2005 11:36 AM

Okay, here is a question for you guys. Is the squaretail recessive? I'm not talking about the ladder tails that are common in numerous litters but the genetic squaretail line. Most morphs that deal with pattern seem to be co/dominant. What do you know about these?

The squaretail gene is recessive but as far as the info goes you might want to talk to P. Kahl. He'd be able to lay it all down for you. Hope this helps.

You should say if you are refering to a bloodline or the genetic of a pattern ?
If you want to know about the pattern, I have a co-dominant one.
About my definition of a squaretail, it is striped tail with more or less light squares in the middle of it .
That's not so rare to find it in suri/guyana but genetic one are not commun on bci.
Sorry, can't post pics on this forum !

I did ask the question correctly. I'm not concerned with the boas that look somewhat like squaretails or ladder tails. I wish to know info about the actual squaretail line like those that ALLBOAS and Peter Kahl are working with. Has anyone bred double hets. together to see if the trait is a "real" simple recessive trait?

started the line. He has proven them simple recessive I believe. That is the source of both Kahl's and Gray's Square Tails.

The phenotype reminds me of Arabesques, but more colorful and cleaner. Hopefully the albinos produced will have infused color.

Where can I find this information? A few people have the actual squaretails but I have not seen too much information in regards to the results of het. breedings.

The breeder from Germany posted a few months ago. I visited his website and talked to him. I don't remember his info though, sorry.

It looks like you copied, pasted and added a few extra words from what is on ALL BOAS web site. You could have tried rewording a little better and it would not be so obvious.

I have no idea where you could make such an accusation from. I have talked to Pete Kahl about them, and learned some info from the producer of the morph in Germany.

You should concentrate on discovering your own intellect through research as opposed to outright ridicule.

What I posted is what I learned. Have you heard of things called common knowledge, they are things multiple people know, and are not copyrighted!

I see, it just happens to be coincidence that your information is VERY similar to ALL BOAS. I really don't understand how you reply all brave and aggressive, one of these days someone is not going to like how you respond and knock your little fragile body with one hit. Tone down youngster.
