Green Tree Python Female.

Tormato May 16, 2005 12:27 PM

Hi,

When I purchased my green python, I didnt expect Id want to breed it. But now it looks as though I want to use this snake as a breeder.

I took it to a vet shortly after its purchase, and determined it was a healthy male. I'd say he's ready to breed now, but would probably benefit from a full fed summer.

As I was browsing through the classifieds, I noticed they didn't seem to have what I was looking for; females. Are they hard to come across? There were some females, but they were juvenille. There seems to be nothing but adult males.

How much should I be expected to pay for a mature (1000-1500gram) female? I dont think money is TOO much of an object, but id also like to know- where to buy breedable females??

Thanks in advance,

Best,
John

When I first got "into" chondros I learned that the most successful breedings were coming from breeders that raised their own breeding females from babies/juvie stage. Most of the adult "ready to breed" females are being kept for breeding purposes and aren't readily available. I'd ask a lot of questions of seller to make certain an adult female didn't have some sort of reproductive or health issues before I'd commit too.

I purchased only one proven adult pair... the female died later due to reproductive problems. This was beyond the sellers scope of knowlege and it was several months later so not his fault in any way.... just, I'm going to feel a lot more confident knowing the girls that I've raised very well.

Next season... .all those babies I bought a couple years back... woo hoo, finally ready to get a start for myself too!
