Black kings (L.g. nigra) found this weekend in eastern KY (lots of pics here)

DeanAlessandrini May 16, 2005 12:47 PM

I spent a GREAT 24 hours in eastern KY (Daniel Boone forest region) on Sat eve and Sun morning. Lots of finds…including 2 live black kings and 1 young DOR. They were returned to the location of their capture.

This 41” male was gorgeous!
Found under tin at about 9AM, 50 degrees

Check that belly out!

This female was found at another location, about a mile from the first. She measured 35”
She did some bizarre defense posturing…she acted “normally” at first, musking, trying to get away…then froze in these strange positions.

That female acted like a speckled king in those last pics! Thanks for sharing. Nice male by the way.
