I am interested in getting my hands on a new snake, something colorful, unique, and tame but not too big (4-6ft) also nothing costing more than $500. Currently have a corn snake, i have had him for six years now and he is doing great. I am leaning toward constrictors but am not interested in ball pythons however, suggestions of any kind are appreciated. Thanks alot.

I think the Savu python might be what you're looking for:

They're semi-arboreal, so they spend a lot of time perching. Well, at least mine does.

Well you could try a Leucistic Texas Rat Snake. It is cared for just like you Corn Snake and with Handling should tame nicely. Really gorgeous snakes when they are full grown, pure, marble white. Here's a pic of my baby (she is pink cause shes young). But as far as ball pythons go they are very colorful, calm and well priced.

You could try a taiwanese beauty snake. Although they get bigger than 6 feet. my other suggestions would be a solomon island ground boa, dumerils boa, a yellow anaconda, or a rainbow boa.

1. Mexican black kingsnake - solid shiny black from tip to tip
2. Eastern Chain Kingsnake - 6 feet of muscle. Macho snake.
3. Mountain kingsnake - gorgeous, dainty creatures with a certain mystique
4. Western hognose - instantly loveable
5. Rough green snake - make great display animals in a planted terrarium (not always handleable)
6. Male redtail boa - stay quite a bit smaller than females, pretty, and handleable
7. Gopher snake - some morphs are outstanding and they have real personality
8. Another cornsnake (morphs are out of the BOX)

I have jungle carpet and irian jaya or west papuan carpets. They are awesome. Even good lookers cost less than 500 bucks a piece. Jungles can get a little bigger than 6 feet, but IJs/WPs are smaller. If you are worried about size, males are smaller than females.

They are colorful, inquisitive and impressive at any size. Babies have a rep for being bitey, but out of four carpets, only one has bitten me. My cornsnake still tags me sometimes when he's feeling feisty.

This is my female jungle:

carpets can get over 10 feet. record size was just under 14.

also taiwanese beauties can get upwards of 8-10.

i'd say look into black rat snake morphs. i'd hang around the north american rat snakes, personally. with 6 yrs of experience, you may want to look into a chondro...but i'll warn you they're a bit of work and something completely different from a corn.

also i've noticed this is the second time i've seen it tonight. not wanting constrictors. what do you mean by this? the only two types (to my knowledge) are constrictors or venemous. In the wild the snake has to somehow dismantle the animal before it eats it.

You own a constrictor now, so getting another one shouldn't be an issue.

I think you mean boids. Or maybe pythons?

-Children's Pythons are lovely small snakes.
-I love Florida Kingsnakes and you can find some really nice, bright colors from some breeders.
