Difference Between "Big" (Good) & "Fat" (Bad)????

Magick May 16, 2005 06:37 PM

I have a large female that will eat ANYTHING... Live, P/K, F/T... It does not matter to her. She is currently 4'4" long, 2500 grams, and 8.5" in diameter at her largest point. How do I determine if she is fat, or if she's just a happy healthy BIG girl? Here's a pic with a cigarette pack for reference. Let me know what you think.

I have one that is 52" long and at the last weight check back in February on an empty stomach weighed in at 5.1 lbs (I forget the gram conversion). Eats anything and everything but prefers rats. Comparing to your photo, mine doesn't have that bulgy look so far up the body near the neck line and only has the bulgy look near the tail when she hasn't defecated yet after a good meal. I've been trying to get as much weight on mine as I could without trying to over do it - when I got her last June she was way underweight..skin was actually hanging loose on her in spots. She's filled out nice and so far holds a fairly slim look so I don't think mine if fat... that is until recently lol. Right now she does look fat and bloated and uncomfortable (ovulating) and about to go into shed.

You shouldn't let her smoke. It could negatively affect her little hatchlings.

Just so you know...

She has quit smoking, perhaps that's why she is so concerned about her figure... she is afraid that she may not attract a male next season

I would feed her as often as she wants. As long as she keeps getting longer and not just fatter I say let her grow. I would slow down if she was a retired breeder and just getting fat but if she is young she will just keep growing and there is nothing wrong with that. You are lucky to have her. She is really nice and big with a good pattern ( kinda reduced spidery look). Good luck with her.

Mine is a pig as well but only 1300g. She is a late 03 and has been growing like crazy from the start. Maybe ones with this pattern are co. dom. or visual het for the Big & Fat morph.

The other pic is a bigger girl. I think close to 3500g. or more.

She is a nice looking girl... But her friend kinda out shines her!! I love the reduced & bright snakes.

I think what you mean is 8.5" in circumfrence. A ball with a diameter of 8.5" would look like a cantelop with a head. lol. She looks pretty good if you ask me. I have a female around the same lenght, although I haven't measured her, and she is a little over 3000 grams. Good luck with your girl.

You got me there... I DID mean "circumfrence"

I am hoping that I can work a breeding loan with her next season, and I sure don't want her too fat to be healthy enough to breed.
