I thought the blackthroat looked female too. I am bad at guessing the sex of monitors though. It is 26 inches now and it has grown 3 inches in the last 3 weeks. I am going to have to take out a second mortgage to keep it fed. I feed it off tongs every day. She has already learned that tongs mean food and runs up to me if I open the cage with tongs in my hand. It doesn't even tail whip or hiss when I reach in to change the water or clean the cage. If I touch it may hiss some, and do a half hearted tail whip. I hope it continues to be calm.
I had heard so many bad things about niles I was worried about keeping these little ones. They are not super shy and scary like I heard niles are. They are very cool. I can open the cage door and they don't usually run and hide. They seem to ignore me unless I have food. Then they go nuts. One of them is definitely the dominant one.
