For all your **ackie monitor owners**

hey everyone im looking to get either a 1.2 or a 1.1 of either red or yellow ackies, i just have some questions about both that will/would help make my choice. thanks

out of reds and yellows who seem to be the more tame(with handeling)(i no most monitors dont like to be handeled)

how much do each cost
babies
adults

when is the best time to get them

if i get the 1.2/1.1 what size cage would i need to house them in

would 1 ft of dirt be ok or do i need most or dont even need that much to begin with

are they easy to breed i meant with like trial and error

i no they stay small and have a lot of energy ths why most people like them
so what size food are we looking like 20-50 bucks a month for like 2000 crickets it is like 40 bucks, and like 100 hopper or pinkie mice it is like 15-25 and other things(the crickets would also be probly more be im gunna begetting into breeding bearde dragons also and i have a female that can like eat 1000 in 2 weeks by her self)

who are some good breeders to be looking at that will help me out and not ripe me off(not that anybody does but there are a few that do)

what do you guys like as with cage doors for them open from side top, or like front open or sliding,

i saw pro exotics have used thos like 5 shelf hide for there do they work(well they must if breeder keep using them) but do any of you guys use them

what is the best to get babys or adults

for breeding do they need a cooling down prd (they probly do)

is breeding them hard or like is it easy to pick up on(i dont mean like first time i will get a full hatching cluch) i will put my time into it no problem

and final the last question

are they the lizard that will make me like keep watching there cage to see what they will do next(i no i asked it with the arguses)

o yeah and if it is not to much trouble can some people post some pics of their
red ackies(baby or adults)
yellow askies( " " "
cages
and heating systems for them(like just how u set up the lights)

thanks sorry for the long post
and also if i spelt anything wrong sorry
wwe raw is on

I mean no offence, really, none at all.

You are not ready to own a monitor much less ackies. Ackies are simple, they are small, quite possibly the greatest monitor species there is out there. I highly recommend them.

You haven't even done so much as a search or read old posts here or on the other good montitor sites or you would know a lot more than just answers to the questions you are asking.

Please. If the monitors mean anything to you do a little research first. (Like a few hours of internet searching. Skip WWE for one night, it's worth it.) Their lives & your rewards will be so much greater for that. I am speaking from experience, truely.

Go to ProExotics.com.

Robyn is a super guy and has already gone through the trouble of answering all your questions. Look in the FAQ & Caresheets he has made available.

"out of reds and yellows who seem to be the more tame(with handeling)(i no most monitors dont like to be handeled)"

Reds (acanthurus)are smaller, yellows (brachyurus) are longer with smaller spines on their tails, as well other differences.

"how much do each cost"
babies-yellow-$99-$250 each. Reds-$250-$350 each.
adults-yellows from $149-$350, and reds from $350-$750 each.

"when is the best time to get them"

As hatchlings as a group, they will learn to get along better, but watch them closely, this may not work to.

"if i get the 1.2/1.1 what size cage would i need to house them in"

A pair I say 4x2x2ft, a trio Id say 3x3x6ft.

"would 1 ft of dirt be ok or do i need most or dont even need that much to begin with"

Ackies love to dig, period, they can use as much as you give them.

"are they easy to breed i meant with like trial and error"

Mine havent bred sucessfully yet, then again I had 2 separate adults, they have copulated a few times Ive seen, but no eggs as of yet. Of course Ive been very very busy so its not that easy to notice eggs or dig them up now.

"who are some good breeders to be looking at that will help me out and not ripe me off"

FR breeds them, Andrew Owen breeds them, Rare Earth usually has some, Pro Exotics has them on occasion.

"what do you guys like as with cage doors for them open from side top, or like front open or sliding"

My pair lives in a modified 55 gallon, it has plexiglas under the screen top to mount the light assembly inside. Its your choice, just dont use screen tops, unless you cover them with a bunch of holes in the top.

"are they the lizard that will make me like keep watching there cage to see what they will do next"

Ackies are awesome, they are very active, they are brave, they want to see everything, and get involved with everything. My female will chase our cat and leap and attack him, they are brave little buggers.

The male, Sedona...

Both Sasha and Sedona...

18 inch female ackie, 24 inch male ackie, and a 22 inch male 1 year old beardie, one of many many hatchlings, this one I kept then sold the parents.
