Hello everyone, I usually haunt the boa forum, but a friend sent me a pic and is curious to know whether this snake found living in a tree in her backyard is poisonous or not, any help would be greatly appreciated ty

100% sure it is non-venomous.. A rat snake of some kind. Don't know much about NC rat snakes. It looks to be a juvenile and getting darker, so I will take a shot and say Black Rat. Someone will tell you for sure, but I do know that it is non-venomous! Tom

After looking around for a minute, I'm not sure.. Definitely a Black or Yellow rat, though. Maybe an intergade? Here is a link

Yep, looks like a mix to me. Black rats in NC tend to be mostly black as they mature and lose the pattern. Where was the snake found. If it was in the southeastern part of the state thats probably a cross. 100% non-venomous.

It is a ratsnake. It looks like it shows some yellow rat influence so your friend must live in the southern/coastal or piedmont area of NC.

I have seen very similar ratsnakes in the piedmont areas of South Carolina as well.

Its a intergrade between a yellow rat and a black rat snake.

I believe it is a mole kingsnake.
