Newbie Questions

I'm going to be getting a Red Eyed Tree Frog in the near future and already have some of the supplies needed (25 gallon tall, Lid, fluorescent light, lamp fixture...not sure what bulb to get) I just had a few questions that i couldn't really find the answers for on the forum for my exact situation. I know all the basic stuff like how warm it needs to be and how much humidity. Would it be best to only get one RETF for that size aquarium? Is reptiledepot.com supposed to have quality animals? Around how much wattage and what kind of bulb would be best for the 25 gallon aquarium? Any beginner tips you guys could help me out with would be great....you guys all seem to know a lot about specifics for different frogs' needs.

good luck and i admire that you are lookingt up info before you by the animal.thats what people should do but mosst buy the pet and then look up info and have to rush out and buy stuff that they should have already had anfd causes the pety to become ill or die.

Hi,
I dont know if either of those bulbs are neccesary. Room temp ( about 73 degrees) is good for them so the lamp may overheat them. Pay close attention to that. Also, they are noctural so the flourecent really wont benefit them. It can also give off heat. Any live plants you might have in the enclosure would need it, however. Maybe try using just the flourecent at first and see if you can get the temps right with just that bulb.
I would recommend getting all the specifics of the tank just right before you get the frog. Have all the decorations in place, temps right and humidity correct. in my experience, these frogs are a bit more delicate than advertised, so making their transaction to their new enviornment as stress-less as possible is important. They usually do well after acclimating, though.
I think two frogs in that size enclosure would be ok, if it's taller than long. And, I personally never dealt with reptiledepot, but i think i would suggest a smaller scale specialty breeder. I just think they'd have healthier animals. Good Luck
