Breeding behavior???LP

Hello Forum-
I have a question for all of those who have witnessed mating of their uros.
Mine are Egyptians-so egyptian specific would be ideal, however not necessary.
What is:
Mating rituals time prior to copulation?
Period of time of actual copulation?
Behavior after completion of copulation?
Seasons?
Some of these are fairly common in literature but as the popularity of Uros grows I am wondering about deviations of the normal.
I ask this because my male who was quarantined for about 4 months and forced out of brumation by a very nasty run of health, has had a go with my one female in which the courtship goes like this :
Head bobbing followed by the mad dash to the female(who usually runs away) he grasps her by the back of the neck and positions her along side . He acually flipped her upside down 2x. I never saw any inverted hemipenis or actual copulation. I did notice that after an initial struggle by the female she seemed to relax and allow him to move her around. Once I had felt there was no imminent doom for either, I left the room. I did this very hesitantly because two years ago I returned to find a blood all over the walls of the enclosure and two uro with mouths locked together. That is why I am wondering a safe time to leave the room. The latest incident I noticed that the female was exhibiting some really pale colors with a definite mottling post courtship.
Thanks for any input-and sorry for the long post.
Ed

I don't have any egyptians but my malis exhibited the very behaviour you described (except for the female flipping over, my female didn't feel it was necessary because she's bigger). I don't think the male flipped her over, I think she did it on her own because she didn't want to mate yet. As for your male's behaviour, it sounds exactly like what my male mali was doing for mating.
I would just keep a cautionary eye on them, just to make sure things don't get too rough. If you don't see any mounting on your male's part, it could be leading to a real fight.
Keep us posted, and if you could get some pics, that would help too.

there's probably more. When she goes to bed for the night, you might want to dig up the soil to see if you can find more eggs that she's hidden. I caught my female covering up a few and I dug up 8 eggs. As it turns out, there were more (9 more to be exact) that I had missed because she laid them UNDER a hide spot. Those 9 eggs were too far gone for me to save. Dig up everything if you have to! The grand total for my girl was 17 eggs.

Good luck

Here's what my girl looked like with 17 eggs in her.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah I make a point to check the caging for any more signs of eggs.
She has taken a real disliking to the interruption.
She head butted my hand twice. I closed my eyes cause I was waiting to get bitten......
I can't blame her though, I remember my wife in labor.....she didn't head butt me, but I'm sure she thought about it. I'm sorry for your loss of baby uros. that sucks! I hope the remaining eggs make it!

Your picture looks like my Oscar(name should really be changed)hope the eggs are viable!

after she's gone to sleep for the evening. Boy, was Isis ever giving me the evil eye when I started digging up her nest. I decided to wait until she went into her burrow to sleep before excavating her nest. After I removed the eggs, I replaced the soil more or less as it was and she didn't suspect a thing. As far as she knows, the eggs are still where she left them. Predators don't bury the nest again once the eggs are dug up. By burying the spot back up again, you'll reduce the stress on your uro.
Be sure to let me know how many you find.

Did what you suggested-wasn't hard to find the eggs....she had taken all the sand out of the area in question and flung it to the other side of the enclosure she laid 23 so far and I think she is still working@ 9pm PST
I am stoked although i do not know (and doubt ) that the eggs are fertile...
My god these things are huge......this was her before the eggs-she really did not look that much different although her eating was not as great.....
